Celebrating Jess
Today is Administrative Professionals Day, and I want to take a moment to celebrate Jess.
When I opened the office on October 1, 2020, we were in the thick of the pandemic. Like many solo practitioners launching their own firms, I was trying to keep costs low and do most things myself—while quietly wondering whether this dream would stay afloat. Around that time, Jess and I were just becoming friends, brought together by our best-friend daughters. When she offered to help me clear out the odds and ends left in our building, I gratefully said yes.
That first gesture of help quickly turned into something more. Clearing turned into cleaning. Cleaning turned into furniture shopping. Furniture shopping turned into arranging the space. And all the while, clients were calling. I was thrilled—and overwhelmed. One day, while we stood in the office kitchen, I shared my stress, debating whether I could really afford to hire help. And in that honest, vulnerable moment, Jess and I began to imagine what it might look like to work together.
Jess is, without a doubt, one of the bravest, strongest people I know. She transitioned from a career teaching ballet into the unfamiliar world of law firm life, starting part-time and growing into a full-time role within the year. Today, she’s the steady, compassionate force that makes our office run.
Jess brings empathy and professionalism to every interaction, guiding clients through sensitive and emotional legal matters. She ensures they feel heard, valued, and supported—and her perfectly timed humor brings lightness to even the heaviest days. Her presence has helped define the client experience at Gondring Law, exemplifying the values we hold dear.
As we celebrate Administrative Professionals Day, Lindsay and I give our heartfelt thanks to Jess. For her dedication, her friendship, and the countless ways she makes this work feel meaningful. Jess, we’re so lucky to have you on this journey with us!
